• Form: TO BE + PAST PARTICIPLE of the
main verb
• Changing from the active sentence into
the passive: The object of the active
sentence becomes the subject in the
passive sentence
• e.g. active: I tidy my flat every week.
passive: My flat is tidied every week.

becomes the agent, and is either omitted
or introduced with the preposition by.
