Don’t be TENSE it’s just verb TENSE!
What is tense anyway?
Tense is form of a verb that indicates
time and sometimes the continuation
or completeness of an action.
There are three types:
• Simple
• Perfect
• Progressive
Is simple tense…simple?
◊ Past tense verbs express an action that
happened before right now
◊ Present tense verbs express an action
that is 1. happening now 2. regularly
happens 3. general truth.
◊ Future tense verbs express and action
that is going to happen after right now
(can range from minutes to decades)
Perfect tense…not perfection
ALL perfect tense verb express an action that
was or will be completed before another
time…used to order events/actions
Past Perfect Tense verbs express an action
that happened before another action in the
past
Future Perfect Tense verbs express an
action that will happen in the future and end
at a certain time in the future
Present Perfect Tense verbs express an
action that happened in the past and
continues or stopped now.

Progressive Tenses
Progressive tenses that continue to happen
Past Progressive Tense verbs express an
action that was happening in the past and
was interrupted
Present Progressive Tense verbs
express an action that is happening right
now or happened through the past until
now
Future Progressive Tense verbs express an
action that will be taking place at some time in
the future and continue in the future
