• To be able to use a bilingual dictionary
• To revise parts of speech (noun,
adjective, verb)
What is a bilingual dictionary?
• A bilingual dictionary is a dictionary used to
translate words from one language to another
• Bilingual dictionaries usually consist of two
sections.
• In addition to the translation, a bilingual
dictionary usually indicates the part of speech
and gender, to help a non-native speaker use
the word.
Task 1:
• Using the French section of the
dictionary, write down as many French
words as you can recognise.
• You have 3 minutes.
What is a cognate?
• A cognate is a word that is similar or identical
in two languages
• Examples: information, madame, télévision
