How do I form a command
in Spanish?
• Lets begin with the do’s (positive tú
commands)
To form the affirmative informal
command of regular or stem-changing
verbs, change the verb to the él,
ella, usted form.

Negative Commands
• Negative commands require a
little more work.
• It will take 3 steps to change a
verb to the negative command
form.
Negative Commands
• To state the don’ts- negative (tú) commands
1. Conjugate the verb into the Yo form.
2. Change the ‘o’ ending to:
- es for –ar verbs
- as for –er and –ir verbs
3. Put ‘no’ in front of the verb.

¡No fumes!

- Verb hablar
1. Put hablar in the yo form = hablo
2. Drop the ‘o’ = habl
- It is an –ar verb, so add –es= hables
3. Put ‘no’ in front of verb = no hables
