Adverbs
• Adverbs are words that describe an adjective

• Adverbs show when, where, how, in what way,
and to what extent, a noun completed an
action.
When:
He ran yesterday.
Here the adverb, “yesterday”, is describing when the
verb, “ran”, took place.
Where:
He ran here.
The adverb, “here”, is describing where the verb, “ran”,
took place. Although “here” is a “place” it is not a noun,
because without a physical explanation, “here”, is not
identifiable.
How:
He ran quickly.
adverb
The adverb, “quickly”, describes the verb, “ran”. The
is showing us how the action was completed.
In what way:
He ran barefoot.
The action, “ran”, was done in a specific
way, “barefoot”.
To what extent:
He ran fastest.
The adverb “fastest”, describes how the
verb, “ran”, was done in comparison to
others.
Adverbs don’t just describe verbs, they also describe adjectives and
other adverbs!
He is an extremely kind person.
The adverb,
“extremely”,
shows “how” kind of a
