Predicate Adjectives
Remember that complements that follow linking verbs are called
subject complements. A predicate adjective is an adjective that
follows a linking verb and describes the subject.
Example: The dog was afraid of its own shadow.
Afraid describes the dog.
Read the following sentences. Circle the predicate adjective in each sentence.Then draw
an arrow from the predicate adjective to the subject.
1. The new teacher was very shy on her first day of school.
2. Those flowers are absolutely beautiful!
3. It will be too hot to play the softball game today.
4. That dog is old and tired.
