How did Poseidon influence daily life
Often before going on a boat voyage, Greek citizens
would offer a sacrifice to Poseidon.
Sacrifices were normally either an animal or wine poured
out to honor the god.
However, legend has it, that there was an occasion in
which the wind would not blow and the Greeks could not
set sail. They wanted to go to Troy to take Helen from
the Trojans. To get the wind to blow they offered a
human sacrifice…King Agamemnon’s daughter.
After she died the wind began to blow and they set sail
for Troy.
Greek Mythology in Today’s World
Advertisement companies use the ideas that the
Greeks had to advertise and sell their products.
For Example Nike is a running shoe today, but
remember what Nike used to be…
Nike was a Greek God of triumph!!
What now…
Your mission is to create a slogan for a
company. You are to use a Greek god or
goddess as your theme for your slogan. For
instance, if you choose to sell bottled water, you
would choose to market your water using the
god Poseidon.
Or , if your were a book company, you might use
Athena or her symbol of an owl to market your
product.
You will work in groups of four, but everyone
must have a job!
