Google Chrome OSThe Idea Behind It
• Google wants a share of the OS market
• Most of the time people access their
computer to get on the internet
• Why not just create a browser-based
operating system
Chrome OS
• Google Chrome (Internet Browser) was
designed with speed in mind
• The OS is no different
• Traditional OS’s take time to boot up
– Around 45 seconds normally
– Chrome OX- 7 seconds to login screen
Functionality
• Anything you put on the computer is
instantly available to you anywhere
• There needs to be a place to store all that
data
– Google GDrive
• Not possible with current technology because of
speed and space constraints
Advantages
• Don’t have to worry about programs
slowing your computer down
• No lost files
• No software updates
• Stateless-Nothing is stored on your
computer, everything is on the internet
• All this=SPEED
Disadvantages
• Possible lack of program availibility
• Mostly Flash based
• Can it use heavy duty programs without slowing
down?--probably not without sacrificing speed
– Games?
• World of Warcraft
• Call of Duty: MW2
– Media Editing Programs?
• Movie Maker, etc.
Overall Usefulness/Can It Take Business
Away from Microsoft and Apple?

• Still in production, beta stage
• Almost like Smartphone with apps
• Will it be able to do some of the heavier
lifting that current OS’s can do?
