AS/400(APPLICATION SOFTWARE) The AS/400 formally renamed the "IBM iSeries," but still commonly
known as AS/400 - is a midrange server designed for small
businesses and departments in large enterprises.
Its operating system is called the OS/400.

allows operating system to be
independent from the
hardware.

Main three features of AS/400
Database management:
The AS/400 has a relational database
manager built in as an integral part of
both the operating system and
machine itself.
Communication:
It communicates with other
computers using protocols such as
Ethernet, SNA, OSI, ISDN, TCP/IP, and
others. It can support connections to
three different LAN at once.
Security:
We can define data security in terms
of objects, user, workstations, files,
records, and fields.
