INQUISITION

Definitions
• Heresy: is a opinion or belief which was deliberately held with knowledge
against the Orthodox Church teachings
• Genocide: the mass killing of certain group of people in certain ethnic
group or religion
• Inquisition: a period of prolonged intensive questioning or investigating
• Torture: inflection of pain and suffering to punish or obtain information
Timeline
• The Medieval Inquisition was a series of Inquisitions
• The Episcopal Inquisition – (1184 -1230’s)
• Pope Innocent III started while this Inquisition was in effect
• The Papal Inquisition – was about the 1230’s when the Episcopal
Inquisition ended
• Pope Gregory IX was pope while this Inquisition was in effect
Holy Church and The Inquisition
• The Church was the organization who was in-charge of
all the gruesome things that happened in the Medieval
Inquisition
• The Catholic Pope was the Man with the most power
during this time period
• The Pope told the Bishops what was right and what was
wrong according to the Holy Bible
Genocide
• Is a mass murder of certain groups in a race or
religion
• The Medieval Inquisition was based around
genocide and torture
• The Catholic Church’s teachings and morals that
all people in that time period had to abide by
• It caused many family bloodlines to end
Torture Devices
• Were used to get confessions out of their
victims
• No methods were allowed to the following:
• Give Bloodshed
• Mutilation
• Death
• Even though most of them caused the
bloodshed, mutilation, or death

• Also called the Guided Chair
• The was harnessed on top pyramid
seat
• The top of the pyramid on either the:
• Vagina for the women
• Or anus for the both men and woman
Branding Irons
• Used to show who is a sinner, murder, rapist, thief's,
etc.
• They would put them on the following:

Heads
• If they were really bad in the eyes of the Church
The Rack
• Is a torture device that the church used to
get the victims who were put in it to confess
exactly what the church wanted them to say
• It would break a lot of human body parts:
• Break bones
• Rip skin
• Tear Muscles
What Did We Learn?
• That people can do a couple of things
• Reverse and become less critical
• Less open-minded
• Less-scientific
• Somethings can be called sacred or
unquestionable
