About the Slides
 The slides include many of the figures and equations
used within the text, and also suggest a route through the
main topics. The slides do not attempt to cover all the
material within the book. It is assumed that the lecture
material will be adapted to suit the needs of the target
audience and that students will be expected to
supplement the lectures by individual reading.
 It is envisaged that the slides will also be used to produce
lecture handouts that will represent the main form of
documentation for the course.

About the Slides

 To aid and encourage supporting reading the slides
include pointers to indicate the relevant section of the
book. These pointers take the form of icons at the top of
some of the slides (as illustrated above).
 Where appropriate the slides also point students to
appropriate material within the text (such as a worked
example) that is not directly covered within the slides.
 Many lecturers will wish to produce their own slides and
will use this material simply as a source for the various
figures, graphics and equations.

Instructor’s Manual
 Lecturers adopting the book as a primary course text may
obtain a comprehensive Instructor’s Manual that gives
guidance on course preparation and on targeting the
material for a particular audience. The Manual also
provides fully worked solutions or sample answers to the
various end of chapter exercises.
 Details of how to obtain the Instructor’s Manual are given

Partitioning the Material
 The slides are arranged such that a single set of slides is
provided for each chapter of the book. Since the chapters
are not of equal length the amount of material within the
various sets of slides is not equal. However, in many
cases each chapter represents a manageable amount of
material for a single lecture and lecturers may wish to
adopt this partitioning and deliver one lecture per chapter.
 Alternatively, lecturers may wish to combine topics within
a single lecture, or put more emphasis onto a particular
topic by delivering it over more than one session.

Introductory Material
 Lecturers will wish to produce some introductory material
for use at the start of the course and the following few
slides may be useful in this task. They include a list of the
topics covered in the slides, which lecturers may wish to
edit to remove any topics that they will not be including.
 The book makes extensive use of circuit simulation as a
learning tool and lecturers may wish to discuss the local
facilities available to students. For those planning to make
use of PSpice a slide is included that includes an image of
screen-shots from this software tool, and suggests how
students can obtain their own software if they wish.
