Intelligent View Cameras
IFV 200
• IFV- Camera enabled features:
– Lane Departure and Forward Collision
Warning
– Automatic Headlight Control and Sensor
Fusion
– Road Sign Recognition and Pedestrian
Detection
IFV 100
Intelligent View Cameras
IFV 200
• Rear View Camera - Allows drivers to view the
area immediately behind the vehicle on an invehicle display
– Helps drivers assess distance of
obstacles from the bumper
– Helps drivers park with more confidence
– Graphic overlay can show vehicle width
and path using inputs from other vehicle
systems
• Automatically activated when vehicle is put in
reverse
• Provides extended-range performance
alternative to ultrasonic park-assist systems
IFV 100
Lane Departure Warning
• Vision-based lane detection system designed to
help prevent lane/roadway departure accidents
– Camera mounted behind windshield detects
roadway lane markers
– Image processing algorithms and state
estimation techniques detect and track lane
boundaries
• Alerts drivers with audible, tactile and/or visual
alerts to help them refocus when unintentionally
drifting out of their intended lane
• Integration with other active safety systems
enhances performance
14
• Pedestrian Detection
• Uses camera-based technology to detect and
classify pedestrians
• Predicts potential pedestrian impact
• Activates countermeasures to help mitigate injury
14
Road Sign Recognition
• Detects and classifies traffic signs
• Provides valuable information to the driver
– Speed limits, Curve speed alerts and Construction
zone alerts
Side Detection Systems
• Uses 76 GHz, single-beam,
mono-pulse radar to detect
vehicles in the side blind spot
• Alerts drivers of a detected
vehicle prior to a lane change
or turn with an audible and/or
visual alert
Side Detection Systems
• Use of turn signal can
deactivate alert to reduce
nuisance warnings
• Enables multiple safety features
including blind spot detection,
lane change merge assist, cross
traffic alert and rear pre-crash
sensing
Collision Mitigation System
• Consists of a camera, vision control
module and multimode
electronically scanning radar
• Uses unique data fusion algorithms
to combine the input from radar and
vision sensors to enhance safety
system functionality
•
CMS-enabled features:
- Full speed range adaptive cruise
control
- Forward collision warning
- Lane departure warning
- Headway alert and autonomous
braking
Collision Mitigation System
• Warns drivers if it estimates a high
risk for collision when the equipped
vehicle approaches a pedestrian or
another vehicle
• If the driver does not react to the
warnings, the system automatically
applies the brakes to avoid or
considerably reduce the effects of
the collision
CMS-enabled features:
- Full speed range adaptive cruise
control
- Forward collision warning
- Lane departure warning
- Headway alert and autonomous
braking
Adaptive Cruise Control
• Automatically adjusts speed to
maintain a driver specified headwaygap from the vehicle ahead
• Headway Alert warns drivers when
their vehicle is less than one-second
away from the vehicle ahead, helping
them to avoid tailgating.
• With the Stop & Go feature, the
system provides speed control down
to a complete stop, expanding ACC
operation for high-congestion, stop
and go traffic
Forward Collision Warning
• Alerts drivers to slower moving and
stopped traffic ahead so that they
can take evasive action
• Helps reduce the severity of an
unavoidable crash by notifying the
driver to take action
• One multi-purpose radar enables
ACC, forward collision warning and
pre-crash sensing
Driver State Assessment Systems
• Alert drivers to drowsiness and
distraction to help them refocus
and avoid accidents
• Enhance safety while remaining
transparent to the driver
Drowsy Driver Alert evaluates
eye closure rate and provides an
appropriate alert.
Driver State Assessment Systems
• Use camera-based technology to
monitor eye closures and head
position
• Automatically apply stimuli
commensurate with drowsiness/
distraction level using a
combination of alerts
– Visual
– Audible
– Haptic
Drowsy Driver Alert evaluates
eye closure rate and provides an
appropriate alert.

Efficiency, Economy
& Emissions
Market Drivers
The goal is to achieve better fuel economy, avoid harmful emissions and reduce
greenhouse gases—while at the same time delivering undiminished performance and a
safe and relaxing driving experience.

Alternate/Bio
Fuels
Performance
Torque/Power
• Direct Injection
– Most DFI systems are of the Spark Ignited
Direct Injection (SIDI) type. However DFI makes
other technologies possible, such as stratified
fuel charge and Homogeneous Charge
Compression Ignition (HCCI).
• Direct Injection (continued)
– These systems generally
operate at a higher fuel
pressure to achieve
maximum fuel atomization.
– In addition, the direct
injection system achieves
greater efficiency by
enhancing fuel mixing
through internal chamber
turbulence
– DI has a 10-15% economy
increase over IDI.
Efficiency, Economy & Emissions
Variable Valve Timing
• Variable valve timing is being used to
decrease vehicle emissions, and
increase engine performance
– This is accomplished by varying the
valve duration depending on the
current operating condition.
– At high engine speeds, there is a
benefit to adding additional air to an
engine
Efficiency, Economy & Emissions
Variable Valve Timing
– At low speeds the extra air is a
detriment to the combustion process.
Some of the air-fuel mixture will not
be burned and will escape from the
combustion chamber
– These systems provide benefits long
sought by vehicle manufacturers to
control engine intake and exhaust
valves.
