Around 15.8% of the population or 57,500
people have a disability in the ACT according
to the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2013
and around 5.2% have what the ABS
describes as a profound limitation.
KEY FACTS:
Ageing is the major cause of disability
Number of people over 65 years is growing
faster in ACT than in other parts of Australia

1,300 Canberra people have already accessed more than $7.7
million in purchases and supports, mostly from business.
• More than 5,000 people will transition to the NDIS by July 2016.
• Joint investment in the ACT by 2019-20 is expected to be $342
million.
• Across Australia investment will reach $22.2 billion at full rollout
in 2018/19. 460,000 people with disability will receive support
they need.

they want, so that they can participate and be included in our
community.

aids, wheelchairs, sensory equipment, medical.

42 items including bicycles, trampolines, sewing items,
play equipment, gym equipment, camping gear, art
products.
