General Education from Islamic
Perspective
• Involves a teacher, a student and
knowledge which are transferred
between them.
• Learning as a means of worshipping
God (ibadah).
• Consider the next life to be the most
important phase of human existence.
The Curriculum of Islamic Learning
• Based on the tradition of early scholars:-students were required to follow a particular
school of legal though (mathhab).
-the techniques of learning were to absorb
rather than questioning.
-the Maulana, religious scholar dispense
formulae and prescriptions for things without
any explanation.

Learning process at the second stage
-will be taught about Al-Qur’an
-should be guided by the eldest and teachers
-should be emphasize about the appropriate ways
to behave (adab)
-should be taught how to behave socially and basic
education such as learning Al-Qur’an and Hadis

-will be able to recognize and differentiate the
bad and good things
-will be taught how to pronounce each word of
Al-Qur’an
-at 7 year old, they have to be trained to pray
Moral Education
-involves principles and believes concerning
right and wrong behaviour
-forbade adults to show lying habits, exposing their
‘aurah’ and wearing silk for the sons
-treat the eldest well and take good care of their
parents

The Islamic educational system never
divorce mind from soul.
Islamic education system must deeply
rooted in a metaphysics derived from the
comprehensive vision of the Al Qur’an.
Islamic education aims is to provide a
milieu for the total and balanced
development of every student in every
sphere.
