MA Buddhist Art:
History and Conservation
This MA is interdisciplinary, offering a knowledge of:

the central concepts and tenets of Buddhism, and their historical diffusion;
the history of Buddhist art in its various religious, social, cultural and political
contexts;
the making of various types of Buddhist art;
the approaches to the conservation of Buddhist art, and an understanding of the
ethical, technical and administrative contexts; and
on-site exposure to conservation and management projects on Buddhist art in
Asia.
Careers
The MA will provide a grounding in Buddhist art and its conservation both for those
intending to pursue further specialist conservation education, and for others who wish
to proceed into related fields such as art-historical research, conservation, etc.

Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
•The curriculum includes a study visit to Paris (Musèe
Guimet) and to Asia (2017-18 likely to be to India).
