EARTH’S LAYERS
FOLDABLE
Please listen carefully to the
following instructions
This foldable is a major grade
And will be used throughout our
six weeks…
Step 1
Materials:
2 Sheets of paper (any color)
Coloring pencils
Pen or Pencil
Scissors
Glue
Earth’s Layers Foldable Handout (teacher
will pass them out….just wait)
Step 2
Now…Take you Earth’s Layers Foldable Handout and
color it using the following Color Key:
Inner Core- RED
Outer Core-RED-ORANGE
Lower Mantle-ORANGE
Middle Mantle-LIGHT-ORANGE
Upper Mantle-YELLOW
Oceanic Crust- DARK BROWN
Continental Crust- LIGHT BROWN
Ocean - BLUE
Step 3
Cut out the Four Small Squares…
And the 12 small labels ( all the words)
Remember to Cut out the Title : The Earth’s Layers
Keep all your trash on your desk in a neat pile.
(We will come around to the desks to pick up
trash)
Now Set all these labels in one neat pile on your desk and
don’t loose them….I will not give you a new sheet because
you lost one piece …
Step 4
Folding time….listen carefully
Take one sheet of paper and orient it vertically
(long way up) …see teacher
At the top left corner glue the title: The Earth’s
Layers.
Right below the title but centered glue the
picture of the Crust….see teacher
Step 5
Take the second sheet of paper and place it on top
of the first sheet of paper but right below the
crust….see teacher
Now paste the picture of the Mantle on the
second sheet of paper…try to center the picture
so it aligns with the picture of the Crust.
Step 6
Now for this step I need your full attention…You
have to look at me for it to make sense…so as I say
the instructions make sure you are looking at what I
am doing…otherwise your going to be lost.
Carefully line up the side of your papers and hold
them tight.
Fold up the bottom of both papers to about ¼ inch
below the bottom of the Mantle.
Staple the fold with two staples very close to the
edge.
Step 7
Now glue all the labels in
the correct place on your
foldable….use your
textbook or class notes as a
guide…if in doubt…ask
your teacher before you
glue them down.

Now…for the content of our Foldable… Each
Layer of the Earth will have three areas that you
are going to have to write about .
You will need a textbook or class notes.

The Crust (text page 51)
Location: The crust is the outer layer of Earth and has both oceanic crust
and continental crust. Oceans sit on top of the ________ crust and
continents made up of large areas of land are called ____________ crust.
Thickness: The crust is the thinnest layer. At it’s thickest part it is about
