Pozzuoli is a town located in a volcanic area, the Campi Flegrei
(i.e.“Burning Fields”), which includes a volcano still active, the
Solfatara. A geo-seismic phenomenon typical of this city and of the
area of Campi Flegrei is bradyseism, that is the lifting and lowering of
the earth's crust as a result of pressure underground. In the eighties
the rapid rise in sea level involved the harbor, which was relocated
about 50 meters ahead of the previous location.

Pompeii and Hercolaneum
The city of Pompeii is a partially buried Roman town-city near
modern Naples. Along with Herculaneum, Pompeii was partially
destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of ash and
pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
Pompeii was lost for nearly 1700 years before its rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its
excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a Roman city.

Giugliano in Campania is a town in the province of
Naples. It is part of the metropolitan area of Naples.

Don Salvatore Vitale is a middle school in the municipality of Giugliano. It
owes its name to a famous priest, esteemed and well known in this zone.
In fact, he was a pioneer of the rebirth of the archeological site of
Liternum (in a reclaimed swamp), a Roman colony and the town in which
Scipio Africanus died. The tomb of Scipio has been discovered in Liternum
but probably he was not interred there. Anyways, it has an inestimable
value.
The school takes part to many projects, among which the Comenius
“EFamily 4U” and several projects of art, music, theatre etc.
It will be very pleased to give hospitality
to pupils from other countries,
