LT: I am learning how the forces within the asthenosphere
affect the lithosphere. The purpose is to identify how land
formations are affected by the asthenosphere. Today we will
build -model plate boundary formations
CW: Gram cracker Plate Boundaries, and Plate Boundaries foldable.
HW: complete Plate Boundaries Foldable
Warm UP: Describe the arrows on the picture
The arrows within the picture/map are indicating the direction
the tectonic plates are moving due to the convection current
beneath the lithosphere. Arrows show converging ,diverging and
transforming boundaries. An example would be the transforming
boundaries in California, they are sliding past each other.
Yesterday we learned…….
There are plates … tectonic plates to be exact that
move because of the pressure and convection current
in the mantel/asthenoshpere..
We also learned, that where plate boundaries are lie
most of the activity due to the plate movements….such
as earthquakes and volcanic action.
Today we are going to model the 3 types of tectonic
plate boundaries. You should focus on the name of the
boundaries, what the movements are and what each
boundary type makes on the earth surface.
How does this move the plates?

Part 1
Draw a diagram on worksheet in part 1.
1. Label the mantel, oceanic crust
2. Label what boundary this is.
3. What landform can be created?
Part 2
Mantle
Mantle
Draw a diagram on WS for part 2.
1. Label the mantel, and the 2 types of crust
2. Label what boundary this is.
3. What landform is created?
Part 3
Mantle
Draw a diagram on WS for part 3.
1. Label the mantel, and type of crust
2. Label what boundary this is.
3. What landform is created?
Part 4
Draw a diagram on WS for part 4.
1. Label the mantel, and the type of crust
2. Label what boundary this is.
3. Was there a landform created, what happens here?
Did you meet the Learning
Target? True or False
1.
The movement of Divergent, Convergent and
Transform boundaries can cause earthquakes to
happen?
2. Transform boundaries cause mountains to form.
3. Divergent boundaries where 1 continental plates
meets 1 oceanic plate causes sea floor spreading.
4. Volcanoes can be formed when oceanic and
continental plates meet at a convergent boundary.
Make a foldable that describes
the three plate boundary
formations and describe what
each plate boundary cause on
the earth surface.
