Earth’s Interior
 Inner Core- Earth’s inner solid layer that is made up
of iron and nickel.
 Outer core- Earth’s liquid layers that is made up of
melted rock ( Iron & nickel).
 Mantle-Earth’s liquid layer that is made up of melted
rock that flows like honey. (Asthenosphere).
 Crust-The outer solid layer of the earth that is made
up of tectonic plates (Oceanic & Continental).
Spheres of the Earth
 Lithosphere( Land)- The solid part of the earth (rocks
& minerals).
 Hydrosphere ( Water)- The liquid part of the earth (
ocean, river).
 Atmosphere( Air)-Gas part of the earth.
Plate Boundaries
 3 Boundary Types
 Divergent
 Convergent
 Transform
 Border between 2 Plates
Divergent
 Plates moving apart
 Seafloor spreading- The process by which
new oceanic crust is created.
 As rising magna cools, it forms new oceanic
crust.
 Example (Mid-ocean Ridges)
Convergent
 Plates come together
 Subduction zone-When one plate goes under
another plate.
 The more dense (heavier) plate goes under.
 Example: (Oceanic-Continental).
 Cause Volcano and trenches.
 (Continental-Continental) cause
Mountains to forms.
Transform

Plates slide past one another moving in
opposite directions.
 Also called Fault
 Causes earthquakes/tsunamis to occur.
