• Water regulations- laws that have been
passed to protect water quality in the US
and North Carolina.
• The Clean Water Act- A law passed in
1972 that focused on protecting surface
waters such as lakes and rivers.

• filtration- the first step of water treatment.
Passing water through a screen to remove
large particles.
• floc- Alum is added in the second step of
water treatment that cause sticky globs
called flocs to form from suspended solids.

• Coagulation- the process of water
treatment where particles stick to flocs and
then sink to the bottom.
• Concentration- the amount of one
substance by certain volume in another.
Water has limits in concentration of certain
substances.

contains bacteria to treat household
wastewater.( Contain scum or used water
and sludge or solid matter )
• Leach field- the area in the yard that
contains the used water from septic tank
pipes.
