What is Pneumonia?
• Pneumonia is an acute or
chronic disease marked by
inflammation of the lungs.
• It has different types
• The causes are different
• Almost anyone is at risk
• And the symptoms are
various

Some Facts About Pneumonia

Often pneumonia begins after an
upper respiratory tract infection (an
infection of the nose and throat).
Symptoms of pneumonia start after
2 or 3 days of a cold or a fever
Symptoms of pneumonia vary
depending on the age of child and

Some pneumonia bacteria can be
contagious by sneezing and
coughing.

called that because the

vaccination for this
pneumonia
• Is easily spread by
sneezing and coughing
Bacterial Pneumonia
• Bacterial pneumonia is
caused by a pathogenic
infection of the lungs
• The ninth president of the
United States, Harrison, got
this disease
• More than 3 million cases
occur during the winter
season
• If untreated-the morality rate
is more than 30%
• The older you get the more
at a risk you have if getting it

• You can get pneumonia by
getting many operations
• If you are getting
treatment for a disease
• If you are going to get
surgery soon
• Pregnant Women
• People with lung and heart
diseases
Viral Pneumonias
• About half of Pneumonias
are caused by viruses
• The flu virus can trigger
pneumonia
• Not serious
• Doesn’t last a long time
• High fever and blue lips
are symptoms of viral
pneumonia
How is Pneumonia Diagnosed?
• Begins with medical and
physical history
• A chest x-ray
• Check a person’s sputum
• Check the person’s blood
• Sometimes an organism
can’t be found in the lungs
but in the sputum or the
other way around
