The bottom layer is the oldest for two reasons, first there is a fossil of a coral, the coral is
form the Precambrian era so it’s the oldest. Also it is the oldest because it’s at the bottom.
The second to last layer is the second to oldest because there is a fossil that is in it is the
brachiopod, I know it is the second oldest because the brachiopod comes from the
Paleozoic era. The Paleozoic era is the second oldest era.
The third to oldest layer is the second from top layer because it has fossil of the bird. The
bird comes from the Mesozoic era. The Menzoic era is the third stage so that’s how I know
it’s the third oldest.
The Cenozoic layer is youngest because its at the top of all the layers. I also know because
it has a fossil of a wooly mammoth. So that layer is the youngest.
All the fossils where alive because they where all either animals or bacteria.
I know that you can tell about how many years old a rock or layer is because if there is a
fossil you know what era it comes from.
•
I can tell which layer is the youngest and oldest by what era the fossil comes from.

A mold is a mold of a shell, fish, or animal. A cast is the imprint of a shell, fish ,etc. We found
all molds in this dig.
