INTRODUCTION
An oil spill is a mass of floating oil covering an area of
water which leaked from a ship, pipeline or any other
source either due an accident or due to failure of the
system.

A. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
Carcinogenic Component of Oil Spill : Cr, Hg,
Organo-phosphorous and benzene
Non Carcinogenic Components : Zn, CH4, NaOH,
Pyrothroid, Ethyl Benzene, Cr, Toulene, Napthalene,
Xylene
B. EXPOSURE ASSESSMENT
The concentration of the contaminants of Oil spill are
found in air, water and in sediments and based on the
data study the concentration of PHc(Petroleum
Hydrocarbons) is found to be abnormally high.
C. DOSE-RESPONSE ASSESSMENT
Based on the Toxicity score, Cr is found to be most
toxic in air while PHc in water. Where as on account of
Lifetime Excess Cancer Risk benzene is found to be
most carcinogenic in both air and water.
D. RISK MANAGEMENT
Bioremediation: ‘a cocktail of bacteria’ basically eats
hydrocarbon compounds found in crude oil and turns
them into CO2 and water.
Surface Dispersants:. Surface dispersants absorb the
oil particles suspended in the water, thus reducing the
oil slick to droplets which can be easily degraded by
naturally occurring bacteria.
