What is Bladder Cancer?
Even though it is very common, it is one form of cancer that
most people know very little about. Bladder cancer, also
referred to as urothelial carcinoma, begins when the cells in
the lining of the bladder start to grow out of control.

What Are The Symptoms Of Bladder Cancer?
The most common symptom is blood in the urine. Other
symptoms include irritation when urinating, urgency, and
frequency of urination. If you have any of these symptoms, go
see your urological care specialist.

Who Is At Risk For Bladder Cancer?
The following factors increase your risk of cancer in the
bladder (bladder cancer):
• Cigarette Smoking — The Single Greatest Risk Factor
• Exposure To Industrial Chemicals
• Chemotherapy Or Radiation Therapy For Other Cancers
• A High Fat Diet

How Is Bladder Cancer
Diagnosed?
Your doctor will first perform a
thorough history and physical exam.
Other tests may include:
• Urine Cytology
• Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP) or CT
Urography
• Cystoscopy
• Tumor Marker Tests
• Flourescence in Situ Hybridization
(FISH)

cancer?
Most bladder cancers can be treated effectively with early
detection. If you suspect you may have bladder cancer, it’s
better to consult a physician, preferably an urologist as soon
as possible.
