What is Hot Potatoes?
• The Hot Potatoes software is a set of
authoring tools which enable you to create a
variety of interactive exercises for your
learners
• It is free to download and use.
The five Hot Potatoes quiz tools are:
•
JMatch - Matching exercise
•
JCloze - Gap fill exercise
•
JCross - Crossword puzzle
•
JMix - Jumbled word/sentence exercise
•
JQuiz - Multiple choice / short answer quiz
To create Hot Potatoes exercises you need:
– a PC (or Mac)
– the Hot Potatoes software
– a web browser
– access to a web server to upload the exercises
(e.g.Moodle)
To view Hot Potatoes exercises your
students need:
- a PC or Mac with internet connection
- a web browser e.g. Internet Explorer or Firefox
Creating a Hot Potatoes exercise
There are 3 basic steps
1) Create the data file
2) Configure and save the output
3) Create the web page

• To download at home:
