Course objectives
• After completing this course students must be able to:
1. Students will put their programming skills to use in
constructing a complete end-to end information system
solution. This will often be their first opportunity to
construct a non-trivial system of software.
2. Students will be introduced to a number of topics that are
covered in more detail in other courses. This introduction
serves two purposes:
– it gives all students exposure to important technologies and
components (e.g., networks, database systems and languages,
clients, middleware development tools).
– Students will be better prepared to choose follow-on courses
that explore some of these topics in much greater detail,
improving their ability to tailor their degree.

Learning Outcomes
• After completing this course students must be able to demonstrate
the knowledge and ability to:
– Explain how the client-server model of computing applies to information
delivered via the Internet and WWW.
– Describe the part that the Internet and WWW play in the development of
information systems for organizations
– Design, develop and deploy for public consumption a single maintainable
web site with static content that employs XHTML and CSS.
– Explain the purpose of client-side scripts and name the predominant client
side technologies in use.
– Describe rich internet applications.
– Write simple SQL queries to insert, update, and delete data from a single
table of a relational data store.
– Create a web application that delivers database data.
