The Problem
Facilities Management would like a web based front-end
system that would access their Microsoft Access
Database that tracks building and room usage from four
different campuses
• SIUE
• East St. Louis
• School of Dental Medicine (Alton)
• Springfield School of Nursing
Currently the Database is not in use and Excel
Spreadsheets are being used
Introduction to the System
• The system’s main purpose is to keep track of the usage
of rooms and buildings at all four locations
• The interfaces will be used for adding, editing and
deleting records in the database tables.
• Specific queries of multiple tables
• Limited access to web interfaces
• Password protected
Analysis Methods
• Client Interviews
• Client review of documents
• Client review of prototype
Users
• Common User
• Will only be able to run
queries
• Don Anderson
• System Administrator
• Will assign usernames and
passwords
• Help maintain the system
• Facilities Management
Employees
• Able to edit data
• Permissions vary according
to what System Administrator
sets
• Kyle Stunkel
• Network Administrator
• Help maintain the system
Functionality
• Users can log onto the web interfaces with a
username and password
• Log scripts to record new changes made to
database tables and by whom
• Queries of one or more database table
• Web interfaces that interact with database tables
