FL Web Site

Abstract
The panelists present and discuss different
departmental and lab web sites, focusing on
how they promote and reflect the study of
languages at their respective institutions.
Topics include recruitment, resources and data
banks, opportunities for faculty and student
publication, and archival possibilities. The
presentation is followed by an open discussion
of the potential uses of web sites to foster
foreign language study.
Curricular Materials on the
Departmental Web Site
• Should we post curricular materials on the
departmental web site?
• How does one decide which materials are
particularly useful?
• How do we encourage students and
faculty to use these resources effectively?
Materials and resources that support courses across
the languages in the departmental curriculum
(accessible from the main navigation bar)
• The Plagiarism Policy: explains the offense and the penalties it carries
• The Citation Policy: explains departmental policy regarding citations
• The Writing Assistant: provides access to the College’s WAC
• Online Research Tutorials: teach research skills and concepts
• Online Guidelines: e.g., teach how to evaluate a web site
• Online Tutorials for Faculty: provide simple instructions on the use of technology
• WWW Resources: provide a carefully-selected list of the websites for each
language offered by the department
• Multilingual Word Processing: how to type international characters
Curricular materials for a specific language program
that may be used beyond the scope of one course

Conclusion:
The departmental web site holds two sets of
curricular materials:
