Transcript Hacktivism
“The nonviolent use of illegal or legally ambiguous
digital tools in pursuit of political ends.”
Hacktivism began as a simple
human rights movement
aimed at keeping
governmental policy and big
business in check and has now
advanced into a multitude of
uses.
Redirects, denial-of-service attacks,
information theft, web site parodies, virtual
sit-ins, virtual sabotage, and software
development are all forms of digital attack
used to facilitate a favorable outcome.
In the past, hacktivists have presented issues
ranging from free speech, surveillance, and privacy,
to slavery and globalization.
Because the U.S.
is now so heavily
dependant on
computers,
nearly everyone
is at risk of
hacktivist
ridicule and
correction.
