Doing the UA: step through
Load up your team’s power point on one computer.
1. Pick someone from another team to be the user. Try to
choose someone who matches the profile of your
audience in terms of expertise, interest level, etc.
2. Have the user do the procedure while the others on your
team take notes. Watch carefully and note steps, pauses
for decision making, signs of success or failure of a step,
and any pitfalls or mistakes.
3. Make sure to ask the user where s/he’s getting lost or
confused and why. Ask for any other clarification you may
need.
After the Walkthrough
1.
2.
3.
4.
Go through the draft and add notes about what needs to be
added, changed, etc. You might want to use “notes pages”
view in Powerpoint.
Make a list of the content items your team has to create for
the web site version of the tutorial. (e.g. sample images, text
sections).
Use your list and storyboard to make a to-do list that will
distribute the work to be done among your team.
Post this to-do list in your process logs.
Next Class
The last few classes we’ve been working on
content development for your Web Tech UA.
The next few classes we will work on
developing the form into which we will place
the content.
Make sure to have a CSS template picked
out for your personal page or the group’s
page. Bring Zeldman for Chapter 10 CSS
guides.
