Agenda
Goal: to discuss starting a Domain Working Group within
OGC, that would foster harmonization of languages and
web services for representing observations of water, water
quality, and other related information.
Speakers:
• Prof. David Maidment, Univ. of Texas at Austin and
Director of the CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System
• David Lemon & Peter Fitch, CSIRO
• David Arctur, OGC

ECMWF Workshop, Reading UK
Workshop on the use of GIS/OGC standards in
meteorology, 24 - 26 November 2008
• The aim of this workshop is to review the use of OGC
standards in geo-sciences in Europe and worldwide, to
promote collaboration between meteorological services in
order to define a set of common standards that will
enhance interoperability.
• The expected outcome of the workshop is a roadmap for
the creation of common reference implementation of OGC
compliant web services for meteorological data which could
lead to a set of recommendations to WMO.
• David Arctur will participate for OGC.

OGC – EEA Partners Meeting
Copenhagen, 27-28 November 2008
• Interoperability as a cornerstone for EIONET (European
Environment Information and Observation Network); the
step from application centric approach towards a service
oriented one. Open standards as an important element of
information sharing (INSPIRE / SEIS / GMES)
• In connection to open standards, focus on web services for
data flow and integrating applications. Stress quality in the
network.
• EEA representing the EIONET network in OGC. David
Arctur will participate for OGC.

Meeting Summary & Actions
• The meeting was well attended. There was consensus that
a new DWG was appropriate to address harmonization of
hydrology-meteorology communities around common
information models and web services architecture. This
would provide a worthwhile channel for input to WMO.
• It was noted that WMO already has a relationship with
ISO TC211, but not with OGC.
• The new DWG would not be redundant with EONRE, as it
would have specific focus not yet represented in EONRE.
• A core group of interested folks will draft a charter for the
Hydrology DWG, and circulate for comments in time to
adopt at the next OGC TC meeting.
