Using Tables
on your web
pages

Web pages do not act like Word
documents. When you create something in
Word, things stay where you put them. If
you want an image on the left hand side, it
will stay there.
With web pages, sometimes things will stay
where you want them, sometimes they
wont – which can be really annoying.

If all you want to make is a very simple
website with a basic design, this is not
really a problem.
You can use a package like Frontpage and
simply create your web page like you
would create a Word document.

That page did what the author wanted, but
it did look a bit simple and not very
professional.
If you would like your website to look more
professional and to make your design
flexible, you will need to use Tables.
Here is a web page that has used a table,
notice how much more interesting the
layout looks.

The page has simply been split up into
areas by using a table and merging the
cells.
By doing this, the navigation bar could be
placed down the left hand side of the page,
a page banner could be used.
Images could be placed next to the text.
