GOOGLE SCHOLAR
Google Scholar is a freely accessible web search
engine that indexes the full text of scholarly
literature across an array of publishing formats and
disciplines. Go to http://scholar.google.com/ . On
campus, it is set for HVCC students.
If you are not on campus, click on Settings then
click on Library links. Type in Hudson Valley
Community College. Check all the boxes and hit
Save. Some of the results will link you to our
databases.
3
GOOGLE SCHOLAR
Google Scholar limits results to journal articles and
books. Not all information is available for free.
Before paying for information, check our catalog
and databases—you may have free access there.
Some results will be available full text @HVCC. Just
click to link to our database. Access to the full text
(not just the abstract or citation) is necessary to use
5
a source for research.
GOOGLE BOOKS
Beware results in Google Books. Sometimes access is just to a
few pages. Trying to copy and paste will result in frustration.
Note that on the left you can purchase access to the ebook. To see if it is available in our library, click on My library.
You must have full text access to use in your bibliography.

The HVCC Marvin Library web page now defaults
to the OneSearch tab. Enter your user id and
password whenever prompted.

WHAT IS ONESEARCH?
OneSearch is a new way to search almost all of the Marvin
Library's collections using ONE search box. It's fast and easy
-- it's a Google-like search for HVCC library resources! In
one search, you can find books, scholarly journal articles,
magazine & newspaper articles, and more...
How Do I Use OneSearch?
Type your keywords into the search box. Just like Google, it
will find anything that has all of the words you typed. The
search results lead you to the full text of articles or to the
catalog to see if a book is available. You can refine your
search by format, publication date, etc.

SEARCH TIPS FOR ONESEARCH:
Search for phrases by using quotation
marks, for example: “chemical castration“
Use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard symbol to
search for different word endings, for
example: teen* would find "teen," "teens,"
“teenage,” and "teenagers.“
Ask a librarian if you need help
