Design Tips for Effective Use

The goal is improved learning
Be conservative-keep it simple
Use lots of white space
Use contrast (dark on light or light on dark)
Use large fonts-minimum of 18 or 24 points
Do not write in all upper cases
Plan on spending two minutes per slide

• Background patterns make screens harder to read
• Design from top to bottom right

Accessing your Web folder 1
• Go to Windows (ONLY USE Internet Browser)
• In menu bar Go to File then Open
1. Creating Web Folder
• You will get a box asking for a web address.
Use https://wwws.ed.uiuc.edu/students/(your NETID but
without the brackets)
• NOTE: Click on “open as a web folder”
2. Prompts for Access
• Box prompt for your Username (NETID) and
PW- This must be the active PW-if you don’t
know it you can set it up at
http://accounts.ad.uiuc.edu/
3. Creating folders in your Webfolder
• Creating a folder in your Webfolder:
– File- click New folder-click and type to give your folder a
name
4. Adding into your Web folder
Web address gives you name of folder you are in- Record
these as you will need them later.
You can tell which folder you
are currently in by looking at
the end of the address above.
5. Adding into your Web folder 2
• You can also drag folders you have created
elsewhere (e.g. on your flash drive) into your
Webfolder
• 100MB space is available in your web folder
6. Accessing your Web folder via Net
• http://students.ed.uiuc.edu/(your NETID) -opens
your web folder as a webpage
• http://students.ed.uiuc.edu/(yourNETID)/eport.htm
l -goes directly to the folder (called here eport) in
your web folder
• http://students.ed.uiuc.edu/(your
NETID)/eport/resume.html-goes to the folder
(called here eport) in your web folder and opens
the resume page in the eport folder
