The 2014 NAAD Competition
Basic Information
Software to use:
Using Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Word you will need to create / design a web
page and series of sub pages on the subject of Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome.
Content
For example, content could
include:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Epidemiology
Relevant statistics

Where to go for further help
Graphics
Ensure that any graphics or
diagrams are either your own
creation or that you have
approval to use and they must
be referenced
HOW TO PLAN YOUR REPORT
1.
2.
3.
4.
Think about your audience
Plan the order of your key pages (main page and sub pages)
Plan individual pages under the key areas and look at content
Organise these areas and pages (what goes where etc.), then layout the
navigation (flow diagram)
5. Create content for each page, text, images, downloads – remember if using
anything from other sites that there must be permission and items
referenced
6. Design visual layout of pages
WEBPAGE AUDIENCE
The MCA website has a range of different audiences and you need to ensure that you
try to cater to all types in some form:
Examples of Audiences and examples of format of information
Audience
Example
Public
Easy to understand graphics or diagrams: usually looking for
care pathways for family members or simple symptoms to
explain a change in behaviour or places for them to contact
for help
Nurses / Carers
Downloadable fact sheets on a range of suitable subjects
associated to Wernicke’s
Medical Students
Links to research papers or downloadable fact sheets relating
to subject
Doctors
Latest research, management & treatment and where to go
for more information or if they are doing research in this area
who to contact to get research published (MCA journal)
The report
As well as creating the website page ‘look’ we would also need you to show clearly
the content included in a flow diagram to demonstrate the links as well as the content
layout (a basic example is below):

The report
As well as the overview of the web page and sub pages that you will provide in the
flow diagram, more information will need to be included for each page.
See example below and review the checklist of ‘Things to Consider’ on the next page.

Things to consider about
your design/content
• Your audience: who you are writing the pages for, primarily healthcare
professionals already interested in the field
• A title for each section: to ensure the content is easy to read for the user
• Use of graphics: to make the page visually impactful (must provide copyright
agreement)
• Use of links to other sites: this provides further information on and credibility
(must provide written/email confirmation to use)
• Web page relationships
• Use of downloadable material: perhaps not all your information will be able to
fit on the webpage and a link to a downloadable factsheet would be useful to
the web user
Things to consider about
the MCA website
• Your webpage will sit under the ‘resources’ section on the MCA
website. This is an area of the website that has a list of information for
people to view, download etc. Familiarise yourself with this part of the
site and what is currently on offer www.m-ca.org.uk/Resources/Resources
• Look at the current web pages to get a feel for the site. Your page can
be as creative as you like, but it is important that it fits in with the
website’s overall look and feel
Judging the competition
