What is MLA (Modern Language
Association) Format?
It is the format style for your essay paper.
MLA format also includes punctuation &
quotation guidelines, and your works cited
page.
Revisions to MLA effective April 2009

The Format
Follow your the instructor’s instructions.
1 inch margins on all sides of paper
Double space
The header should be at the top right hand
corner of each page, ½ inch below the top
edge and should include: Your last name, and
page number

The First Page
No title page is needed unless your
instructor requests one
The upper left hand corner should include:
Your name, your instructor’s name, the course,
the date
The title should be centered on the next line
