Sandro Botticelli Biographical Sketch
• Sandro Botticelli (1445 - 1510) was an Italian
Renaissance painter. He was born in Florence, and
became Fra Filippo Lippi's apprentice in 1462.
Throughout his life he worked with many artists and
completed many masterpieces. He became a follower
of the moralistic friar Girolamo Savonarola, and
stopped painting for a while due to his devotion. Later
in life, his work was smaller, distorted, and colored in
an unnatural way. His final resting place is at the feet of
Simonetta Vespucci, a noblewoman whom he may
have used as the model for "The Birth of Venus."
