Benefits to Patients
• Correct Unit Dose Sachets: getting it
right every time
• Convenient, easy to carry and
discrete
• Ease in administering
• Less mess
• Easy to dispose of sachet vs bottle
Benefits to the NHS
• Less expensive and reduces waste in the Acute
setting
• Unit dose eliminates risk of medication errors
• Reduces risk of infection &
aids CQC compliance
• Saves Nursing/HCP time when administering
• Requires less storage space
• Eliminates disposal cost of bottles
• No additional hidden costs for associated
implements
A reduction in the risk
of infection
“Lactulose Sachets are the way forward as no patient would be at risk
of infection unlike from a crusty old bottle, which has multiple recipients
and can harbour a variety of bacteria.
It is mainly staphylococcus aureus that poses the most risk as it can
remain alive for days on an open bottle of Lactulose (wet or dry).
One can only assume that there IS a risk and therefore any
formulation/packaging that can minimise the potential for risk can only
be beneficial.”
