The Place I Want to Get Back To
is where
in the pinewoods
in the moments between
the darkness
and first light
two deer
came walking down the hill
and when they saw me
psst...
they said to each other, okay,
this one is okay,
let’s see who she is
and why she is sitting
On the ground, like that,
so quiet, as if
asleep, or in a dream,
but, anyway, harmless;
psst...
and so they came
on their slender legs
and gazed upon me
not unlike the way
I go out to the dunes and look
and look and look
into the faces of the flowers;
and then one of them leaned forward
psst...
and nuzzled my hand, and what can my life
bring to me that could exceed
that brief moment?
For twenty years
I have gone every day to the same woods,
not waiting, exactly, just lingering.
Such gifts, bestowed,
can’t be repeated.
psst...
If you want to talk about this
come to visit. I live in the house
near the corner, which I have named
Gratitude.

What will you be taking back from this place
to your place, today?
Though we might like to linger
we have to go.
How will you translate
what you have found here
into your life,
your relationships, your practice?

How do we manage
Gift and Loss?
How do we move from
Spiritual Desolation
to Spiritual Consolation?

One definition of spirituality …
Lartey proposes that spirituality
has five dimensions, which must
be understood as belonging
together in an integrated whole.

New Horizons: working
together for better
mental health
Good mental health is
important to us all. The cost
of mental ill health touches
us all every day, whether
we are aware of it or not,
and the effects on sufferers
and their families can be
devastating.

The Fist
There are days
when the sun goes down
like a fist,
though of course
if you see anything
in the heavens
in this way
you had better get
psst...
your eyes checked
or, better still,
your diminished spirit.
The heavens
have no fist,
or wouldn’t they have been
shaking it
for a thousand years now,
psst...
and even
longer than that,
at the dull, brutish
ways of mankind heaven’s own
creation?
Instead: such patience!
Such willingness
psst...
to let us continue!
To hear,
little by little,
the voices only, so far, in
pockets of the world suggesting
the possibilities
psst...
of peace?
Keep looking.
Behold, how the fist opens
with invitation.
