They say you want
an evolution…
Ch…ch…ch…changes
There are four main categories
of evidence showing that
evolution happens




Fossil Evidence
Embryological Evidence
Molecular (DNA) Evidence
Anatomical Evidence
 Homologous structures
 Vestigial organs
Fossil Evidence
Fossils show how things have
changed over time, both on the
earth and within living things.
Archeaopteryx had the wings, and
opposable big toe of a bird but the tail,
teeth and claws of a dinosaur.
Fossil evolution in
whales—Part 1

Embryological
evidence
Embryological evidence is seen by
looking at the early development of
different organisms
Embryological development of various
animals
Molecular evidence
By looking at similarities and
differences in DNA, we can see how
closely related different organisms
are.
Molecular evidence of evolution—Differences in
amino acids in human hemoglobin DNA vs.
various animals.
Anatomical evidenceHomologous structures
Homologous structures are made of
the same bones but perform
different functions.
These limbs are homologousmade of the same bones
Humerus- purple
Ulna- blue
Radius- blue
Carpals- red & green
Who is the owner
of each limb?
Anatomical evidence—
Vestigial organs
Vestigial organs are left over body
parts that no longer perform a
function.

Human tailbone--there have been many well documented medical
cases where the tailbone has been surgically removed with little
or no adverse effects. There have been documented cases of
infants born with tails, an extended version of the tailbone that
is composed of extra vertebrae.
In plant-eating vertebrates, the appendix is much larger and its main
function is to help digest a largely herbivorous diet. The human appendix
is a small pouch attached to the large intestine where it joins the small
intestine and does not directly assist digestion.
The biggest evidence!!!
 Evolution is happening as we speak.
 Flu and other viruses like HIV change as we
try to kill them off.
 Cockroaches and other insects change and
develop immunities to different poisons
 We are changing…getting taller…getting
smaller jawbones…
