FY2012 demonstration experiments: Marine products information (Overview)
○ Demand for the guaranty of food safety and security is increasing since the Great East Japan Earthquake. In light of such circumstances,
implantation of a traceability system that includes safety and security information in the marine products industry, which is one of the
major industries in the affected areas.
○ For this reason, create data standards required for distribution and coordination of data that are generated in each stage of production
and processing companies, distributors, restaurants and retailers, and consumers, and develop and demonstrate the mechanism that
achieves marine products traceability utilizing the Information Circulation and Sharing Platform Common API.

*EPC stands for Electronic Product Code . An identification code system for the
purpose of individual-item management established by the EPC Global, an
international standardization organization. Cooperation with ucode that is used as a
common API data standard is one of the demonstration experiment challenges.

Connoisseur Information:
If they come in shells, fresh scallops quickly close
whey you touch them. Good scallops have firm and
shiny eye of scallop.
Season:
They taste the best from the winter to spring
around March before the spawning season. The
meat becomes thick with increased protein, making
them more flavorful.

Nutrition and efficacy:
Scallops are rich in minerals such as iron and zinc
in addition to taurine. It is said that they are
effective for preventing us from hardening of the
arteries and high blood pressure, have revitalizing
effects, and they lower cholesterol. Not only taurine
the only amino acid in scallops, the unique taste of
scallops also comes from glutamine acid with its
powerful sweetness. Scallops are rich in amino
acids containing asparagine acid, glycine and
others.

[Achievements and Issues]
○ Based on the common API specification, succeeded in building and implementing APIs and data standard (vocabulary, etc.) in the marine products
area, and verified their effectiveness for the utilization of the traceability system that includes information related to safety and security information.
○ Succeeded in examining the effectiveness of coordinating the ucode (standardized internationally by ITU) used as identification codes of the common
API data standard and distribution codes (EPC) (standardized internationally by EPCglobal).
○ Studies will continue for the possibilities of commercialization in lights of the results.
