CVD claims about as many lives each year as cancer, chronic lower
respiratory diseases, accidents and diabetes mellitus combined.
In every year since 1900, except 1918, CVD accounted for more
deaths than any other single cause or group of causes of death in
the United States.

Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 fights a culprit in cardiovascular illness, namely homocysteine. Time and time for over
10 years scientists have shown that even mildly elevated levels of homocysteine in the
bloodstream raise the risk of heart disease.
High homocysteine levels may be even more damaging than high cholesterol levels, but taking
vitamin B6 protects your heart.
A clinical study in Poland found taking just 300 mg of B6 everyday for two months (along with
adequate amounts of vitamin B12, that is, 1000 micrograms weekly, and folic acid, 5 mg daily)
cut homocysteine levels in half.
This B-vitamin combo also reduced levels of thrombin, the clotting agent that sets the stage for a
heart attack or stroke.

Folate (as folic acid)
Folate (B Vitamin) lowers homocysteine, and high levels of this amino acid
have long been linked to heart attacks and strokes.
In a 2006 study published in the scientific journal Circulation Research,
investigators shed light on the mysterious connection between folate and
heart disease. Diets low in folate increase homocysteine and which lowers
HDL cholesterol–the so called “good” cholesterol. This in turn increases the
risk of heart disease and stroke.

Trimethylglycine (TMG)
(Anhydrous Betaine)
Trimethylglycine is effective at reducing the risk of heart disease and studies
also link it to liver health.
The most overwhelming science in support of the use of trimethylglycine
(also recognized as betaine) revolves around its ability to lower
homocysteine levels 20-30% in those with hyperhomocysteinemia. Plus, it
has also shown a small decrease (5.5-8%) in persons with normal
homocysteine.

Pomegranate
Antioxidants contained in pomegranate juice may help reduce the formation of fatty deposits on
artery walls. Antioxidants are compounds that limit cell damage.
Research published in Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences indicates that
scientists found that Pomegranate combats hardening of the arteries (atherogenesis) and
related diseases, such as heart attaches and strokes.
“In this experimental study, we have established that polyphenols [antioxidant chemicals]
and other natural compounds contained in the pomegranate juice may retard
atherogenesis,” said Claudio Napoli, a professor of medicine and clinical pathology at the
University of Naples, Italy.
