How long was Judy Garland over the rainbow; high on booze and
drugs?
Born Frances Ethel Gumm, Judy was in the entertainment
business since she was a baby. Her mother introduced her
to uppers and downers as a young girl.
Despite many hit movies such as The Wizard of Oz, Meet
Me in St. Louis, and Easter Parade, MGM Studios released
her from their contract. She was damaged goods by 28
years old, and considered an unreliable physical and
emotional wreck.
At 37 years old, she was a semi-invalid after recovering
from a near fatal overdose. Told she could never work
again, Judy went on to a full recovery and within two years
gave one of the most legendary comeback performances in
history.
Drugs, alcohol, family, and the movie studio all contributed
to the death of Judy Garland.
