Conclusion
For Banning Cinemas!
Reason #1
According to religious
clerics, opening movie
theaters will lead to
prohibited activities such
as:
Free socializing of men
and women.
Listening to music.
These prohibited
activities do not go in
order with the Saudi
conservative society.
Against Banning Cinemas!
Reason #1
Movie theaters can
benefit society.
Saudi creativity and art
can flourish and be
shared locally and
worldwide.
Reason #2
There can be no film
industry without movie
theaters.
Creates investment
opportunities and jobs
for the unemployed
youngsters.
For Banning Cinemas!
Reason #2
Religious clerics believe
in “dangerous outcomes”
resulting from movies.
They believe that the May
2009 earthquakes were
caused by the “Menahi”
movie screening.
Reason #3
Showcasing Western movies
are considered to be a threat
because:
Hypocritical effort to
westernization
Corrupt conservative society
Distance from Saudi
religious laws.
Against Banning Cinemas!
Reason #3
Movies bring families
closer as they will enjoy
the movies together.
Good place for young
adults to spend their time.
Instead of hanging out in
malls or restaurants.
Reason #4
Saudi youths are highly
interested in making
short films on YouTube.
Cinema would be helpful
to encourage the Saudi
movie business to
prosper.
For Banning Cinemas!
Reason #4
Religious clerics believe
that cinema and
television programs are
just as bad influence as
drug trafficking.
Conclusion:
Movies can have a
negative influence on
audiences.
Even with the
government editing
movies on television,
there are still issues in
parental control in movie
theaters.
Against Banning Cinemas!
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the revival of
cinema in Saudi Arabia
should be seen as a positive
viewpoint for the public.
The Saudi society can be
benefited by cinemas.
With segregated movie
halls, showcasing movies is
a possibility!
“Our youth is creative, and not all
films cause bad influence—
Menahi is a good example of
this.”
–Saudi columnist Abdullah Al-Qabi
