What is the Clinical Skills
Competition?
• An opportunity to practice and further develop your ability
to evaluate patient information and optimize medication
therapy utilizing evidence-based medicine
• Designed to facilitate an interactive, team-based analysis
of clinical scenarios relevant to future pharmacists
The Clinical Skills Competition
• Design
• Each team (2 students/team) is provided with a patient case and
must identify and prioritize drug therapy problems, evaluate
treatment goals, and formulate a pharmacist care plan
• Format
• Pharmacist Care Plan
• 2 hours allotted
• Read and evaluate patient case and current therapies
• Use resources available (books and internet)
The Clinical Skills Competition
• Oral presentation- 10 minutes
• 2 minute presentation of Pharmacist Care Plan
• 8 minutes of Q&As from judges

How to prepare?
• Practice cases at our clinical skills workshops
• Free food for those who participate!!
• These workshops will help us prepare and build our
confidence for the competition!

• Topic: Febrile Neutropenia
• Will use own case
Thursday, September 19th
• Dr. Cauthon
• Topic: Management of
Osteoporosis
• Will use ASHP case; students to
work-up beforehand
Wednesday, September 25th
• Dr. Urteaga
• Topic: Asthma
• Will use ASHP case; students to
work-up beforehand
Thursday, October 3rd
• Dr. Lusk
• Topic: HAP/severe sepsis
• Will use ASHP case; students to
work-up beforehand
