ABSTRACT
Cytotoxicity Study of 4-chlorobenzoylurea Using
Brine Shrimp Lethality Test
Several literature showed that urea derivatives had anticancer activities. This
research was carried out to investigate biological activity especially cytotoxicity
of 4-chlorobenzoylurea. The cytotoxicity of 4-chlorobenzoylurea compared with
urea as a lead compound and hydroxyurea as anticancer drug already used. The
cytotoxicity of the compounds was studied using brine shrimp lethality test. Brine
shrimp eggs were hatched in natural sea water and exposed to the 4chlorobenzoylurea, urea, and hydroxyurea. Median lethal concentration (LC50)
values was calculated using probit regression analysis. Based on the results,
LC50 of 4-chlorobenzoylurea was 116,16 + 7,50 ppm and hydroxyurea was
165,75 + 3,86 ppm, whereas urea wasn’t have LC50. According to brine shrimp
lethality test, it can be summarized that cytotoxicity of 4- chlorobenzoylurea is higher
than hydroxyurea.
