Clinical Bioinformatics
• The use of informatics tools and techniques to
study and analyse biomedical and genetic data
• Involves the development of new tools and
algorithms to solve biomedical issues
• Involves new discovery of biomedical knowledge
and know how
• Covers and overlaps with many disciplines and
fields in applied sciences
Clinical/biomedical example……..
CLINICAL BIOINFORMATICS
• New methods to rapidly and conveniently screen any
genetic variant
-probability of association with disease risk
-probability of treatment outcome
The Clinical Bioinformatics Cycle

1st Clinical Bioinformatics Symposium on
Applied Sciences (CBAS) 2009
• Promote awareness of Clinical Bioinformatics and its
applications in biomedical sciences and healthcare
• Sharing of views by renowned speakers invited to tackle
complex and diverse topics in Clinical Bioinformatics
• Networking session and SCBC to allow participants to
showcase their work to foster inter-disciplinary
collaborations
• Help foster the Clinical Bioinformatics Cycle

The Singapore Clinical
Bioinformatics Consortium (SCBC)
• Part of CBAS to continue inertia and initiative
• Seek representatives from each institution to
strengthen ties and build up strong links for
collaboration in the field of Clinical
Bioinformatics
• Potential aims would be to initiate key or core
project areas with potential for development both
locally as well as regionally
The Singapore Clinical
Bioinformatics Consortium (SCBC)
• Tie-ups with industry and pharmaceutical
companies are also encouraged
• Invitation to be part of this exciting
Consortium as committee members to
spearhead and drive new clinical
bioinformatics projects both regionally and
internationally
The Singapore Clinical
Bioinformatics Consortium (SCBC)
• Invitation for contribution in but not limited to:
-Biomedical Imaging
-Translational Research
Eg Bench-to-bedside or personalized medicine
-Genomics
Eg functional annotation of genetic variants with respect to complex/clinical
diseases
-Drug discovery
Eg novel drug target identification and discovery
