What Is It?
• Vicodin is a painkiller that contains
acetominophen and hydrocodone and is
used to relieve moderate to severe pain
• It is prescribed to patients for use of
therapeutic treatments and is classified as a
“Schedule III” in the United States
• Other names: Anexsia, Dolorex Forte, Hycet,
Liquicet, Lorcet, Lortab, Maxidone, Norco,
Polygesic, Stagesic, Vicodin, Xodol, Zamicet,
Zydone
Effects of Vicodin
• Using Vicodin(or like medications)
once will act on certain centers of the
brain to give pain relief(an opiate
drug).

Athletes Using Vicodin
• Vicodin is a narcotic, and therefore
anyone can become addicted. There
are no ‘special symptoms’ for athletes,
actors, or musicians. This drug causes
clouded judgment, which can lead to
fatality, but the symptoms will be the
same for a football player as it will a
ballerina.

Vicodin With Other Drugs
Vicodin can be increased, decreased or
altered if used with:
• Antidepressants
• MAO Inhibitor
• Donnatal, Congentin, Dramamine, Robinul,
Cantil, Pamine, Transderm-Scop
• Bladder or Urinary medications
• Bronchodilator
• Irritable Bowel Medications
Use of Vicodin(Students)
• Vicodin will alter judgment
• Vicodin can make you drowsy
• Vicodin must only be taken as
prescribed, or the symptoms as listed
previously can affect YOU.

• Texas follows the United States laws
regarding prescription drugs:
To qualify for treatment as a Schedule III
medication in the United States,
hydrocodone must be combined with
a non-narcotic ingredient in a
recognized therapeutic amount.
• per dosage unit (i.e. a solid, pill or
capsule) which must have no more
than 15 mg of hydrocodone in
addition to the therapeutic amount of
a non-narcotic ingredient
