ABSTRACT
SIMPLICIA STANDARDIZATION OF CASSIA SIAMEA
LAMK’S LEAVES
The leaves of Cassia siamea Lamk leaves or commonly named by daun johar
had been used as plant medicine, especially as traditional drug . In the future, the
leaves are expected as raw materials of phytopharmaceutical products. In order to
ensure that the final product of Cassia siamea Lamk leaves have a constant parameter
value, the standardization process needs to be carried out. The aim of this study is to
assay the spesific and non spesific parameters of Cassia siamea Lamk’s Leaves as a
part of standardization.
The result show that the water soluble extractive was 19,95 ± 0,29 %, ethanol
soluble extractive was 13,59 ± 0,49 %, volatile oil content was 0,032 %, tannin
content was 2,93 %, total flavonoid content is 2,04 %,total ash content was 5,19 ±
0,09 %, water-soluble ash was 1,22 ± 0,04 %, acid-insoluble ash content was 0,61 ±
0,14 %, water content was 4,78 ± 0,38 % and loss on drying was 7,54 ± 0,03 %.
Macroscopic and microscopic examination had also been done. The
Cassia siamea Lamk has leaflets with 4 -12 pairs, opposite type, oval-oblong, mostly
emarginated, rather thick, glabrous and feebly spinous above, finely pubescent
beneath. Under the microscopic examination, there are some specific features like :
cuticle on upper epidermal layer and papillae on the lower layer, unicellular nonglandular hairs (trichomes) with dentates margin, prism-shaped calcium oxalate
crystals and anomocytic-type stomata.
