SVHA National Alcohol Plan: Reducing Alcohol Harm and
Violence
• Health services have a central role to play in the
prevention of alcohol-related violence and harm.
• SVHA National Alcohol Plan: Reducing Alcohol Harm
and Violence is St Vincent’s Health Australia's alcohol
action plan that has identified four priority areas for
future action these are:

Workforce Development
Evidence Based Research and Practice
Advocacy and Policy
SVHA National Alcohol Plan: Reducing Alcohol Harm and Violence
Partnership Development and Alliances
The plan promotes and is dependent on strong alliances to:
develop stronger partnerships between health, law enforcement and
education sectors
develop agency and university partnerships
lead improvements in data collection
reduce harms to community safety.
The aim of these partnerships is make prevention ‘everybody’s business’,
creating better experiences for people using health services, and
strengthening primary health and continuing care in the community.
SVHA National Alcohol Plan: Reducing Alcohol Harm and Violence
Workforce Development
The Plan highlights the need to increase the capacity and competency of the
drug and alcohol workforce. The gaols are:
People - Attract and retain workers
Place - Achieve the necessary distribution and skills mix in the workforce
Environment - Foster positive learning and working environments
Performance - Equip the workforce with the necessary competencies
Increased investment in the workforce is across the health, welfare, education
and workplace health and safety sectors.
A key area of focus is to strengthen, skill and support primary healthcare to help
people in making healthy choices.
